In 2020, mankind is facing the most serious infectious disease crisis in the “Great Plague” in Medieval Europe. This infectious disease crisis not only threatens human lives but also hinders the development of various fields such as economy, education, science and technology. At the same time, it also highlights the attitude and measures taken by each country to deal with the epidemic.

During the period of the epidemic, I compiled the contents of the headlines of each country’s news network and printed them on bricks. At the beginning, there were not many reports about the epidemic and people paid no attention to it. It was like throwing a brick at the roadside, vehicles passed by quickly and people stepped over it as if nothing had happened. However, as the epidemic became more and more serious and spread arbitrarily, the news reports that followed increased, and the bricks I printed also became more and more. They gradually piled up into a wall, and then a building and people can no longer cross it. It becomes a very conspicuous thing in a public space, blocking our progress and sight, and it is also difficult for us to move it.

 

The work uses bricks leftover from the demolition of old houses. If the content is printed directly on the bricks with a handheld printer, the color will fade easily and the ink will run. So I wash the grey layer on the bricks with water and brushed it with waterproof glue. And white latex is used as the coating, and then the characters are printed, and finally, UV glue is applied as a protective layer. That ensures the printed news content will not fade for a long time and will not be easily scratched and damaged. I think it is a work in progress because the epidemic continues to affect all aspects of society. I will continue to collect news reports about the COVID-19 epidemic and write down this brick diary.
